Governments around the world have taken a wide range of measures in order to combat the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic with a heavy emphasis on distributing cash transfers. In this policy brief, I discuss how adding reminders (e.g. SMS, pre-recorded voice messages) into cash transfer programmes can promote adherence to preventative guidelines and to facilitate the formation of the required habits and behaviours of people.Â
Covid-19 has caused unparalleled disruption to employment and livelihoods (ILO, 2021). Unskilled and informal sector workers, women, displaced persons and urban households are at greatest risk of pandemic-induced unemployment (ILO, 2021; UN-WFP, 2020). This review focuses on social protection policies which reduce unemployment, improve earnings, or raise intermediary outcomes such as ownership of productive assets.
